Grim Cesta Value - 55 monk offhand
Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm curious as to the value of this item. I routinely sell the ones I get for 4k and I see 3-6k sales all the time. This is the quest reward item for Cities of Ascalon.
Today I noticed a thread in the high end forum of Ventari's and the seller is asking 100k + xxectos for this item. I laughed. Then I noticed that people are actually bidding on it. The bidders are the regulars around here and not joke bidders. So, what's up? I'm curious now. Why is his grim cesta worth so much and where did it come from? I'm pretty sure it's now that it's not the normal quest reward item. |

maybe a guy and a couple of his friend got together with an idea to get the value of the item up is my guess. i hope so i got a half dozen of these in storage. id say they are scamming and its not an actual sale seeing you still get the item from the quest. last i knew 3 to 6k is still the going rate

The one in the High-end thread is exactly the same as the one from the Cities of Ascalon quest, except, it requires Healing Prayers instead of Blood Magic... It might be fake, but I doubt it.

Req Healing is a lot rarer. If I remember right they changed it to req blood to stop a certain bot farming build. Not positive about that though.

It was the original reward for the Cities quest. But given its bad stats, most people just merch'ed them, including me. That was all before 55 builds were popular(or even known). It was changed into the blood req one not long after.
They are rare, hence you're seeing it in the high end section. |

about Cities of Ascalon quest reward scam on gw-wiki ->
There is often misinformation about the availability of the quest items above. It comes in either the form of "This quest is no longer available," or "The -50 health focus is no longer rewarded." This is incorrect. There are likely two main causes for the rumors: 1. The conditions to make this quest available are not very straight forward. Thus if people arrive in Ascalon City and expect to find this quest immediately, they would be misled into thinking the quest has been nerfed. Additionally, the quest reward summary when accepting the quest does not show the full stats of the reward, especially the "-50 health" detail, misleading people into thinking the -50 health focus quest reward has been removed from the quest. 2. Because the -50 health plays a very vital role in 55 Monking, there are people simply creating the rumors to increase the price so they can make a bigger profit. hope you find it useful |

I guess I've never really looked that closely at the reqs for the grim cesta. I just saw the -50 and knew that was the key. Thanks for the answer guys. LOL, now I'm getting interested in the auction. |

This is most likely a grim from Pre-Searing. The merchants used to sell them. I remember only because I bought one of theses &*#@ useless things by mistake. I was very miffed that I got another for a reward in the Citys quest. When -55s got popular I popped a char into pre to pick up one of these now wonderful and very useful gems...wrong! The Pre-Searing Grim Cesta had been changed to regular pre type stats. Don't remember weather the Grim Cesta in pre was healing but I'm thinking it probably was which could explain its rarity Ant |

If its any consolation i merchanted both my cesta's and HoD swords before i knew anything about them lol
Question is though, if you've successfully 55'd all these years without one, do you really need one? |

As Sell Administrator I have checked the thread mentioned when it was first submitted.
It has already been mentioned here but I will repeat it to make sure there is no doubt as to the legitimacy of the sale in question: The requirement of the -50 health off-hand rewarded for doing the Cities of Ascalon quest was changed to require Blood Magic instead of Healing Prayers. Any of the off-hands with the Healing requirement is rare to come by and is an item people are willing to pay considerably more for then the Blood Magic version. The quest was also changed so you now receive either the -50 health off-hand or another off-hand with completely different stats. The Blood Magic off-hand with -50 health is still available as quest reward, but you are no longer certain to get it every time you complete the quest on a new character. |

If you have doubts about an item in the Sell forums, just pm a mod. They are very vigilant about deleting bogus threads.
